Sorry Clare, but it’s true. The Clare Valley bills itself as the “Home of Australian Riesling” and they even have the Riesling Trail but Eden Valley winemakers seem to have such a handle on the variety and a plethora of Riesling-committed winemakers that there can be no question as to who is making Rieslings that are world-class, high quality and uniquely Aussie.
2007 Eden Valley Wines “12 Saviours” Riesling: The 12 Saviours [sic] are the investors and vintners who have all chipped in to make this wine. Fruit comes from many Eden Valley sources and it is pretty evident in that it is difficult to peg. Lemony and a bit fuller bodied than many of its valley counterparts. US$22.00

2009 Eden Hall Riesling: pale yellow, nice acid, faintly floral. Lemoney. US$20.00
Very few Eden Valley Rieslings are sweet. They are all generally very crisp and the strong acid makes for powerful but pleasant citrus flavors and lends to their age-ability. There is a mineraly assertiveness to many of this region’s wines that reveals their German winemaking roots.?? ?
