2008 Eden Springs “High Eden” Riesling: Another citrusy wine very much of the Eden Valley flavor profile, lemon, lime with pleasant petrol hints. US$20.00
2008 Radford Riesling: This 2 year drought effected vineyard has managed to produce a really balanced, cheap coach bags, tropically fruity wine with lemon-lime that shines through. A really festive, satisfying wine with a take-me-I’m-yours accessibility. US$20.00
Angaston, South Australia -- Wine folk in the Eden Valley, louis vuitton bags, and most likely numerous people elsewhere, will probably want to pop this whingeing wine writer in the nose because of the following riddle: What looks exactly like the Barossa, has nearly the same diurnal shift, has similar soil and was founded in the middle 1800’s by Germans but isn’t the Barossa? You got it. The Eden Valley.
Though these neighboring regions are similar in so many respects there is one crucial difference. It’s the altitude. Eden Valley is about 1,300 to 1,600ft./400 to 500m higher up than the Barossa Valley which is 650 to 950ft./200 to 300m above sea level. What this means for the Eden Valley is slightly cooler, therefore, longer ripening times which are perfect for Riesling. (There are many Rieslings made in the lower climes of the Barossa and many are quiet good but they tend be much less acidic.)
Now wine folk of Australia’s near-distant Clare Valley are going to want to take a swing at this author because of the following assertion: The best Rieslings in Australia come from Eden Valley. Sorry Clare, but it’s true. The Clare Valley bills itself as the “Home of Australian Riesling” and they even have the Riesling Trail but Eden Valley winemakers seem to have such a handle on the variety and a plethora of Riesling-committed winemakers that there can be no question as to who is making Rieslings that are world-class, high quality and uniquely Aussie.
2007 Eden Valley Wines “12 Saviours” Riesling: The 12 Saviours [sic] are the investors and vintners who have all chipped in to make this wine. Fruit comes from many Eden Valley sources and it is pretty evident in that it is difficult to peg. Lemony and a bit fuller bodied than many of its valley counterparts. US$22.00
?
2009 Eden Hall Riesling: pale yellow, nice acid, faintly floral. Lemoney. US$20.00
Very few Eden Valley Rieslings are sweet. They are all generally very crisp and the strong acid makes for powerful but pleasant citrus flavors and lends to their age-ability. There is a mineraly assertiveness to many of this region’s wines that reveals their German winemaking roots.?? ?

2009 Flaxmans Wine Eden Valley Riesling: Citrus yet still very aromatic, orange blossom? and streaking acidity. US$22.00
2008 Heathvale Riesling: This wine is 100% estate grown. Pronounced minerality, honey on hot granite, louis vuitton replica bags, to be exact. $US18.00
For the most part the wines tasted for this story are extremely small production, sometimes as small as a few 100 cases. While they may be hard to locate in the US they can be shipped from Australia.
2009 Poonawatta Estate “The Eden” Riesling: With a tiny bit of residual sugar (3.51 g/l) this apple and citrus number is a great wine for the budding Riesling drinker looking to ween themselves off the sweet stuff. US$22.00
