Training Aids

A new golf swing skill requires regular feed back. While a single golf lesson will give you insight into your weaknesses and the correction it seldom results in permanent swing changes. Consistent feedback keeps us on track. When we rely solely on feel or ball flight for what we are doing our perceptions can mislead us. Our awareness of the postion of the club or our body parts x22 ironsis often incorrect. Feed back by a experienced knowlegable instructor is crucial. PGA Master Professional Dave Cahill, at the Cahill Golf Schools in Palm Springs Ca, instructed students on how to perform a specific hip rotation during the golf swing. The students received a demonstration, performed the feel of the rotation with the instructor, and were able to verbally describe the correct hip rotation. The students were then recorded performing the motion with a high speed video camera. Students were recorded performing the motion taylormade r11until they were certain they had performed it correctly. The videos subsequently revealed that none of the students performed the motion correctly. However, additional instruction with repeated verbal, visual, and feel oriented feed back from both the instructor and the video camera resulted in correct performance. Unfortunately training aids offer limited benefits ping k15as a source of feedback. Research has shown that over time students learning a new skill with a training aid compared to students learning without a training aid learn at the same rate. Studies do show that using training aid during the initial presentation of a physical skill speeds taylormade r11 ironsup learning. For example the initial use of auditory feedback to alert golfers of a correct position is helpful. Continued use of the training aid beyond the initial presentation provided no benefit. Two companies have recently introduced auditory feed back devices for learning r11 irons . They are Kvest and Advanced Motion Measuremnt. Each has developed wireless biofeedback sensors. Scientific research has not been performed using these specific devices as they relate to golf.
